Smashing Pumpkins New Album, Tour

2007-03-20 08:53:54.430

Story by: Amanda Farah

The wait is finally over: Smashing Pumpkins have announced that they will release a new album. A year and a half after Billy Corgan placed a full-page ad in a Chicago newspaper stating he "wanted his band back," it is now official that Zeitgeist, the Pumpkins' first album since 2000, will be released this July via Reprise, coinciding with headlining gigs at the Leeds and Reading Festivals (their only confirmed North American date is at the Virgin Festival in Toronto). The line-up for the Smashing Pumpkins reunion has not yet been finalized; Corgan and drummer James Chamberlain (who worked with Corgan on the short-lived Zwan project) have both been confirmed, but who will fill the role of bassist on this outing has not yet been revealed.

Zeitgeist will be released July 7
-a Saturday, as opposed to a traditional Tuesday release-at 7:07 a.m., thus milking the 07/07/07 date to the fullest (and you thought people went overboard with the 666 release dates last year).
